10 common mistakes
6 min read · The traps beginners fall into most often, and how to avoid them.
Learn from other people's mistakes
Everyone makes mistakes. You might as well skip the well-known ones.
The 10 mistakes
1. Building for months before talking to customers
Months of coding, then nobody wants it. Talk to your audience before you build, and while you build.
2. Picking a niche that's too broad
"For all small businesses" speaks to no one. "For florists who do deliveries" speaks to someone. Start narrow. You can expand later.
3. Pricing too low
Low prices attract less committed customers and make it hard to build a real business. Price based on the value you deliver, not on fear.
4. Adding too many features
More features doesn't mean more customers. One thing done well beats ten things done halfway.
5. Waiting until it's perfect
Your first version will be rough. Launch once it solves the core problem, even simply.
6. Ignoring distribution
"If I build it, they will come." They won't. Finding customers is a job in itself, starting on day one.
7. Testing too many channels at once
Posting a little bit everywhere without measuring anything. Pick one or two channels and go deep.
8. Not asking for money
Keeping everything free for too long dodges the real question: will people pay? Ask for payment early.
9. Switching ideas too fast (or never)
Quitting after one quiet week is too soon. Hanging on for months with zero signals is too late. Set a checkpoint with clear criteria.
10. Going it alone, in silence
No feedback, no help, no support. Share your progress, ask for opinions, find other founders.
